Not an ordinary house

The ebony velvet clouds covered the stainless roofs. Heavy downpours of rain slashed their way through my dark tinted windows. I took my keys out of the ignition. The wind made my car rumble and shake – all I could hear was howling. My vision became weaker as the rain smashed its  way onto the windscreen. I opened the door and ran towards my new house; my hands were numb and I was struggling to open the door.I eventually wedged my way in. Squeak! the sound  my feet made when I stepped onto the clean fresh wooden floor. I turned on the light and my vision became clear to see the bright white walls gleaming. I felt comfortable. You could just about smell the paint: it made me feel enclosed and safe. Just above me from where I was standing a huge, long, beautiful chandelier was hanging from the ceiling. It had peculiar patterns which never stopped amazing me. The light was beaming directly into my eyes. I looked to the left of me to see the long curved staircase with smooth soft carpet which coated the staircase from top to bottom.

I wandered  around the house. The rain was still going and it was getting worse. I did remember about the weather being bad today, but I never knew it was this serious. I walked into the kitchen, admiring my new house. I turned the light on, however there was no ignition. I tried again and again until it did. “FINALLY!” I screamed. “Bzzzzzzzz”. The light started to flicker and then it popped. I jumped out of the way and started at the switch. I thought to myself what’s gone wrong here? We did electrical checks last week and everything was fine. I decided to go to the fuse box which was in the basement. I opened the door to see a dusty , old and creaky stairwell which led me to the basement.I took one step and the staircase started to shake . As I was walking,I felt a gentle breeze trickle down my neck.I looked back in a flash but all I could see was the light from my house. I carried on making my way down. This time it was getting darker and darker; my vision clouded, so I got my phone to use as a torch.

“Where’s this stupid fuse box?” I whispered. I heard something from the house. I arched my back to see all the lights turned off in the house. I knew something was not right. All that came to me was the fuse box is very weak and needs to be fixed… Immediately.

Again, that breeze. This time I felt it on the back of my hand. I shivered. Running down the staircase, I tripped and fell on the cold hard metal basement floor. My vision became weaker and weaker.

Panting heavily, I got up with an extreme pain in my ankle. The torch was still on. I limped towards my phone… I heard a little girl murmur, “It’s not safe here, you must go, please don’t  stay…” I stopped and looked around. My breathing became faster.  My body started to shake. “Hello” I stuttered. “Who’s there?” ; limping  towards the door. BANG! The door slammed right in my face. By this time my ankle was  agony and I could hardly walk. I started to panic. My mind was out of control and the pain in my leg was excruciating.

I turned back to see a small dark figure standing next to the wall. I started to squint to try make out what was there. Stumbling over my feet, I walked towards the figure. My physical state was telling me to stop but my mind was telling me something else. Staring into the distance, I shone  my light towards the figure; but nothing was there.

I looked at the splatter on the wall. A trickle of blood. Then I read the words: “Sometimes the things you see in the shadows are more than just shadows”. And the blood slowly started fading away. By this time the fuse box was the last thing on my mind. Banging noises started and  kept on going. Then the screaming started. “STOP, JUST GET OUT, PLEASE LEAVE ME!” Then it stopped, but not for long after sounds of a little girl  shouting “Daddy!” whined their way through my head.

They stopped. I stopped. Everything stopped.

I am impressed with some of your choices of verbs and adjectives to describe the weather.

Could you work on the following areas tomorrow in class?

    1. There is a difference in spelling in where and were.
    2. You need to use connectives to join some of your simple and compound sentences together.
    3. You need to use words to describe how your protagonist felt by his surroundings, in your opening paragraph.
